Chatter...
It occurs to me that I have once more failed to gush about the fact that I am going away for a week up north.

Yes. As of this Firday I am off for a week, in which July Wedding Number 2 shall take place Saturday, Sunday's events are still up in the air, and the rest of the week shall be spent in Collingwood with my mom's family. We have everyone coming, and as much as it kills me that all the fun stuff they've planned (a Christmas In July dinner Saturday with gift-exchange Sunday morning) will be taking place this weekend, I'm still squeeing over this, because a) it's a week off work in the middle of nowhere (OMGWTF!) and b) it's a chance to see folks that I haven't seen in....forever.

I've been pondering on whether or not I want to bring my laptop, since chances are there'll be no WiFi connection, but I'm debating on the odds that my writerly-self will end up becoming rather verbose, and hand-writing copious amounts of text makes my wrist hurt just thinking about it. On the other hand, chances are probably good that I'll have no time to fire said laptop up, let alone get any time to sit and write, since there will much with the talking and the playing and the general catching up. Plus books. I plan to get a jump on these damned things.

In a bid to stay true to my [info]laptopditch commitment, I think I'll park the Laptop for the week. This may change at some point int he next three days, so stay tuned.

...I had other things to say, but I can't recall what they were. It was just general WTFery about the last several days, but meh. I guess they weren't really that important.

*hugs everyone*

RUSH!
The concert was awesome :)

I couldn't see very much, since we had lawn seats and decided to sit at the very back so we could lean on the fence, and I'm a foot-and-a-half too short for such things, but I managed to catch a good chunk of it off the screens they had behind the guys, since they were, indeed, huge and shiny.

They played 2 sets, so no opening act. The best part was the intro to Tom Sawyer, right at the end. Gosh, that was brilliantly done.

My only beef was that Alex didn't play my gorram guitar solo from 2112, but I was just chuffed that they played any of it at all, so yeah :)

Don't ask about a playlist, 'cause I don't recall what they played. It was a good mix between Snakes&Arrows and their old stuff. (Geddy: "Before we get to more of our - *makes air-quotations with fingers* - 'veteran' songs...I don't think we ought to refer to them as 'old'...we'd like to play some more from Snakes and Arrows..." *giggles* Poor guy. You know they've been around for ages, when...)

Hee, next time they pass through town, I'm going to get off my ass and order tickets way earlier, so I can actually get seats. That way I'll have something to stand on when people get in my way ;)

All-in-all, Rush still = ♥♥♥♥♥, and it was fun to experience them our shared hometown. (Geddy Lee was hilarious with his "Great to be back in Canada, now we can actually speak Canadian" speech. Hee :) )

Oh, and a note!

---------------------------------
Dear Q107,

If you play "Freewill" one more time, I'm gonna smack you.

No love,

Me.
---------------------------------

Because that little note needs explaining... )

Hee :)

ETA: Here's a better run-down of the concert, including projected set-list: Q-107 Rock Report - Rush

And also, here's the intro to Tom Sawyer that had me laughing insanely... South Park!

Downpour!
Okay, so instead of hiding away in my basement, I decided to take a trip to my grandmother's to visit with some cousins that are in town for the previously mentioned weddings. I was only going to go down for as long as they were there, but their ride home had to cancel due to work obligations and such, so not only did I offer to give'em a ride, I even convinced my parents to come down for dinner, since I by the time this was all decided, it was 5pm and I wanted to give the traffic an hour to settle from the initial rush hour insanity. Getting my parents to come down for dinner, turned out to be a smart move.

About an hour ago? It didn't just start to rain in a pretty thunderstorm, it downpoured. We had to abandon the front porch because after several minutes the wind picked up and the porch was soaked.

Also, my uncle (dad's kid brother) and his family came down earlier, too. They arrived about 20 minutes after I did, but had to leave because their oldest had a soccer game (heh, most likely got rained out, :] ). It was funny watching my four cousins playing Gamecube when one of them speaks nary a word of English and the other 3 don't understand Italian. I had to keep interpreting for one of the non-Italian-speaking ones, 'cause he kept leaning over and being all "What did he say? What was that? Huh?"

I poked them and jokingly said that the four of us, (Me and the 3 that don't speak Italian) should take lessons. They agreed, but I only think they did 'cause they thought I was kidding. Me? Not so much. I've been wanting to take lessons to brush up, since I've been losing the language ever since I started high school and no longer had to be in my grandmother's presence all day, every day during the week.

So. My dad is now the one who is driving his cousins home, and me and my mom are at home nice and cozy. Dad's home now, since it's taken me forever to write this up, since I keep getting side-tracked *blush*

Also, those sandals I was looking at that weren't in my size at Payless? These would be them.

*eyes clock* I was going to jump on AIM for a bit, but then, no, I realize doing that will only have me going to bed hours later than I'd like, and after today I'm pretty wiped.

I'd say I'd be on tomorrow night, but I have the Rush concert at the Molson Amphitheatre tomorrow, and therefore will not be home. Send me warm fuzzies that it doesn't rain, 'cause we have seats on the lawn and we'd get soaked, otherwise.

*squeek*
1. SGA SSN 4 is supreme love.
2. I managed not to squeek, squeal or squee when the guy showed me where they were.
3. Also managed not to bounce around the store snuggling it like an infant snuggles its most beloved plushie.
4. Alas, I could not prevent the goofy grin that was pasted on my face as I walked back to my car.

In other news, Shawn not only gave me my monthly installment of Jedi porn, but he tossed in three soundtrack CDs (A John Wililams compilation, and the soundtracks for A.I. and Aladdin [even he's not sure where the hell he got that one]).

And my adventure to find suitable footwear for the upcoming weddings (one this Saturday) was a massive failure, though I found a nice pair of sandals at Payless that would go with this one outfit I have - however, they didn't have my size - and the pair of black dressy sandals I found at another store were perfect save for the fact that they were $100 and honestly, I'm not shelling out that kinda cash for this particular wedding. It's a long story.

Meh.

Hey! Maybe I'l actually finish that proper write-up on season 4, now that I have it in my possession???

Le Sigh...
*pokes at shoulders gingerly*

You know, I think I do this once every summer: I forget the sunscreen on one seemingly inoccuous occassion and come back crispy-to-well-done. And each time it involves either a long-ish walk during midday when the sun is at its hottest, or a casual cruise with the top down as I run errands.

This year? I managed to nail both, minus the walking.

Yes. I went somewhere with the top down at midday. And it wasn't the shortest of jaunts, either. *headdesk*

The trip to Hades and back... )

Remarkably, my shoulders didn't hurt, and I didn't have any issues sleeping last night, as I like to lay on my side, all scrunched up. There's a couple of places on my skin which I suspect are itty bitty heat blisters, but as I can't recall if they're new to my shoulders or not, I can't be certain, and they don't hurt or bug me or anything.

I only had a bit of stinging today, after shrugging my shoulders for whatever reason, but so long as I don't do too much to make the skin bunch up, I'm actually quite comfortable. And my skin is warm to the touch, not burning, and it's gettng a little cooler with each passing hour.

But yes. I do this at least once every summer, but once is enough. You can bet I won't be forgetting the sunscreen again this year, that's for damn sure.

And yes, this is further proof that I don't tan. I burn. Crispy.

...Ow.

Jag: ... gah, I have such a backlog of books to read
Nic: so do I :)
Nic: I have two double-stacked shelves. And the books I'm in the middle of reading right now? Haven't touched'em.
Nic: I may make a resolution to read this summer, instead of being irrevocably attached to my laptop.

Jag: Gah. Yes
Nic: Hee, we should form a book buddies group :) Where everyone posts the book they are reading and then announces when they've finished and such
Jag: *grins* YES
Nic: laptopditch is free :)
Jag: *giggles*
Nic: That's essentially what we're doing, yes?
Jag: That could be used for all kinds of things other than reading, too
Jag: (Although ther'es something hilarious about an online community called laptopditch)

Nic: true! We could be the comm for those vowing to do ANYTHING else other than be glued to laptops
Nic: (hee, yes :) It'd be like the Online Betty Ford Clinic for Internet Addiction)
Nic: Okay, so. laptopditch. The place for people to support each other as they attempt to break the tether to their laptops for the summer by doing off-line activities.

Fic: Saviour
Title: Saviour
Fandom: SGA/Firefly
Characters: Sheppard....
Word Count: 705
Rating: PG-13
Summary: John makes a special friend in an unlooked for and surprising place.
Author's Notes: ...You had to see this one coming. I'm just impressed it took this long. Stand-alone, and not connected to any of my other insane fics of this nature.

-----

John Sheppard was fully expecting to wake up an infirmary, but this one wasn't quite the one he had been hoping for. He had been hoping to be home, on Atlantis, not in a tiny room, antiseptic and well-ordered though it was. The doctor that stood over him, checking vitals and administering drugs, was far too young, John thought, but then again, working with the genius brain-children of the Milky Way, it wasn't too alarming. And the sense of movement, the vibration of a ship's engine, was comforting, because it meant he was no longer wherever he had been previously.

Fic: House Madrassa.
Title: House Madrassa
Fandom: SGA/Firefly
Characters: Team Sheppard, Inara Serra, Companions!
Word Count: 1,152
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Team Sheppard ends up on a planet with a very curious residence...
Author's Notes: Iiiiii really need to stop letting my mind wander freely when I talk to Jag. Because ideas like this usually spawn. This came from an AIM conversation in which we speculated what would happen if Rodney had a Companion Admirer and Inara had to step in to save him. I was about to suggest the same senario with Sheppard instead of Rodney, with the amendment of it being pre-John/Inara and VOILA. This idea blindsided me and had me in tears and giggling for a good 10 minutes. I'm twisted, I know.

Yet another first-meeting fic to add to my suddenly growing list.

----

Team Sheppard approached the ornate looking building cautiously. It looked like a cross between a temple and a boarding school, to Lt.-Colonel John Sheppard, and the bold colours of the paint and other ornamentation were very unlike the softer colours and pastels preferred by the Ancients. That ruled out the Ancestors as possible creators and/or settlers of this planet and its culture. It reminded him of...something...he couldn't put his finger on it at the moment, but something about one of his tours was threatening to re-emerge in his memories.
